Release April 20, 2021 – “TILL THE WORLD LIFTS ITS HEAD AGAIN”
“TILL THE WORLD LIFTS ITS HEAD AGAIN” is the debut single for Friendly Folk Records by American singer/songwriter/violinist, Chris Murphy. A production of cross-Atlantic collaborations, the uncanny origin of the song comes from a pre-pandemic dream. The lyrics, though written in Fall of 2019, seem to insinuate, or prophesize the path of events and the bewildering sentiments the world would experience in 2020. “Said it was coming, nothing you could do. Thought I was dreaming, it could not be true. Gonna’ close my eyes and count to ten, till the world lifts its head again.” Singing the lead vocals, Chris Murphy also displays his talents on acoustic guitar, mandolin and violin on this upbeat, yet haunting track from the upcoming album SOVEREIGN, that is due to release in June of 2021. This track includes an impressive roster of musicians: Electric Guitar – Doug Pettibone (John Mayer, Jewel, Lucinda Williams); Drums – Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello); Bass – Hal Cragin (Iggy Pop, Rufus Wainwright, They Might Be Giants); Backing Vocals – Andreas Geck (Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Brian Auger) and the stellar musicians of The Jolly Gents; Tom van Aarle on the accordion, and Sjoerd van Ravenzwaaij performing on Banjo.
